Bernard Acoca; Appointed As New Chief Executive Officer

Bernard Acoca was CEO and Co-Founder of Zaxby’s, a fast-food chain specializing in chicken fingers and other Southern US cuisine. McLeroy served as president and chief operating officer of the company since 2002. McLeroy is succeeding in Acoca and will continue to serve in an advisory capacity for limited periods during the transition.

The Zaxby’s CEO will remain a pivotal advisor to McLeroy in the role of chairman. Acoca was the chief architect for Zaxby’s current turnaround strategy, including greater emphasis on franchising and a broad expansion of potential sites for new locations. This has enabled Zaxby’s to achieve unit growth that exceeded its previous best levels while also increasing profitability. Additionally, Acoca was instrumental in implementing an advanced analytical system that has made Zaxby’s operations more efficient and helped reduce food costs.

Acoca served as chief executive officer of Zaxby’s. Mr. Acoca served as president, chief executive officer, and Co-Founder of Zaxby’s. Before co-founding Zaxby’s, he was president and CEO of Smith’s Food & Drug Centers, a complete grocery store chain operating in Arizona, New Mexico, and Nevada during the 1990s. During his tenure at Smith’s, Mr. Acoca was a member of the board of directors and arranged the company’s initial public offering in 1999. Before joining Smith’s, Mr. Acoca was with Amerada Hess Corporation. He served as vice president and general manager of its retail operations, including Hess gas stations and Circle K convenience stores. Mr. Acoca also spent five years with Shell Oil Co.
