Gino Pozzo is a businessman who owns and operates Watford Football club. He is the chairman of Granada Group, and in 2007 he became the club owner, previously owned by Lord Alan Sugar. Gino has helped lead Watford into complete financial stability, this being one of his few successes in business.

His Achievements

Gino Pozzo secured his dream of buying Watford FC after a long battle with Lord Alan Sugar in May 2007. His buyout of the football club, his first business since owning Granada Group in Spain, was worth around £ 30 million from Sugar.

He is very private; he lives in Spain, away from the spotlight, and only makes rare public appearances to do with the club. He owns a yacht called ‘PX,’ formerly owned by the Sultan of Brunei but rarely uses it.

Gino Pozzo’s first takeover as the owner of Watford FC was to appoint Gianfranco Zola as manager for the 2007/2008 season. In his first season in charge, Watford finished 18th in Division One and was very close to being relegated from the Championship. Zola left at the end of this season after securing his dream job with West Ham FC. Aidy Boothroyd replaced him for the 2008/2009 season, who had previously managed Grimsby Town in the Football League. This season Watford clinched promotion to the Championship with a final-day win over Reading FC by a score of 0-0.

Gino Pozzo has acquired the majority shareholding in Udinese Calcio, a Serie A club based in Italy, and plays football at Stadio Friuli. The deal was made in October 2012 and cost around £ 12 million.

Gino has since relinquished his role as chairman of Udinese after being put under too much pressure by the Italian government to sell his shares. He led the club to Serie B and B in their first two seasons after the takeover. In 2014 the club was promoted back to Serie A, finishing 3rd behind Juventus and Napoli.
