Wayne von Borstel is the president and founder of von Borstel & Associates, a full service translation services firm. Wayne was born in Germany, grew up in Canada and the United States, and lived in France for twelve years before moving to Toronto. He studied Translation at the University of Toronto, holds a master’s degree in Translation from Ithaca College, and speaks three languages fluently. Von Borstel has been working with various industries through his company since its inception more than 30 years ago.
Wayne von Borstel has been married for 35 years to Lisa von Borstel, a speech language pathologist. They have two daughters and one son, who all live in the USA. He is also a grandfather to his granddaughters.
From 1990 to 1993, Wayne was on the Toronto Board of Education as their Chairperson of the English Language Arts Department. In the same capacity, he wrote and edited an award-winning series of literature guides and curriculum planning materials for teachers called “Literature & Language Arts in Culture-Based Classroom Settings.” Wayne was also on a consultative committee for Ontario’s equity task force that worked with teaching professionals to integrate equity issues into their practices.
Since 1996, Wayne has been a regular contributor to the “Toronto Star”, writing a regular column called “Wayne’s World of Wisdom.” In this column, he offers his wisdom on all things related to language, culture and communication. He is published regularly in newspapers and magazines, including the “Toronto Sun”, the “National Post”, the “Toronto Star” and “Canadian Living”. In addition, he has written thirty-plus books for children, won several awards for his work and was recently named an Edelweiss Master Teacher.
He is currently an Adjunct Professor of Language Studies at York University where he teaches a graduate workshop course entitled: The Language Educator from Theory to Practice.
